Differences...

So today in class our topic was same sex attraction, which is always an interesting subject.  We discussed if it is something that we are born with or something we grow to be. For me it has always been that society pushes them that way. I do not believe we are born that way.  I believe it is something that is very misunderstood with individuals who feel very misunderstood.  I believe it all starts when we are children and society has ideas of what boys and girls should be and how they should act and if it is not that way then they are different and the odd ones out. What is so wrong when little boys play with a doll or dresses up he is a child and it is normal so don’t freak out there playing and experimenting as childhood should be. A child imitates those around them and if a boy is with his mother all day he is going to see her putting on makeup, and caring for younger siblings. So he is going to model that when he plays, which only shows that he will be a loving husband and father some day and there is nothing wrong with that. We freak out as a culture when little boys do things girls do, but they are too young to understand any of this and with our reactions they get the sense they are different. So if our culture would not react so harshly they will grow out of it just fine. Each of us is different and we all have different temperaments. So why is it so wrong when guys are more expressive, creative or sensitive? Do all guys have to be tough and macho? It’s just their different temperament it does not make them gay but yet our culture thinks so. We learned in class that most boys do not consider themselves gay until someone labels them so.  Then they go back and connect different events in their life that made them different than the “normal boy” that society approves, and then distance their selves from the “normal” group and go to who will accept them for who they are. Just because they have a few feminine traits does not make them gay.  I think we should be careful with our children and not classify them in that kind of category nor ever give them any kind of label, but help point out the gifts they have been given and how they can help others with them no matter what society thinks. We also need to talk to them and make sure that they understand what is going on, and that they are not getting confused with how they feel and how society labels them.  I think as a society we need to be more accepting of the differences one gender may have.  Some men are sensitive and we think that’s weird yet when women are tough we think nothing of it. Women can move up and be like men, but men can’t come down and be like women if they do their different which I do not agree with.  We are all different and we come with special gifts and abilities that a loving father in heaven gave us, but those gifts can become interpreted wrong in some but they are all traits our Father has so let us be more accepting of those who may seem different. What wife would not want a sensitive and understanding husband who enjoys being at home with the family and can express how he feels?  What is so wrong with that? I think it makes for a well developed marriage and happy families.  I think some are just misunderstood and just want to be their selves but are afraid they will be pushed away because of the view of our culture.
